The WASSA Marketing Awards were originally established in 1982 as part of the joint WASSA & NAASS Conference held in Vancouver, BC, Canada and presided over by WASSA President Charles White, Portland State University.
Since then, marketing awards have been presented and showcased each year as part of the annual WASSA Conference based on submissions from WASSA members in the categories of:
- Single "best marketing idea"
- Best Comprehensive Marketing Effort Created & Executed by the Summer Session office
- Best Comprehensive Marketing Effort that includes Summer Session in the Institutional Marketing Plan or as Part of Another Campus Unit
